The surgery is particularly aimed at those from community and voluntary groups wanting to learn how to use the social web. Free web tools can help you to organise activities, promote events, raise funds, collect feedback from your participants and keep a record of everything you do.

All of our helpers are volunteers or staff from local organisations who know enough about using social media tools to help someone else. You don’t need any previous knowledge to take part, and there won’t be any lectures. We’ll talk to you one-to-one, listen to what you need and explain things clearly.

Heavy Metal has had an up-and-down relationship with cinema over the years, often exploited for spandex comedy or grisly horror soundtracks. Join us at Light House along with other venues across the city and region for HOME OF METAL: METAL ON FILM as part of the Home of Metal Weekender.

This eclectic programme will celebrate some of the genre’s celluloid highlights, from rare television and live footage to cult classics like ‘Heavy Metal Parking Lot’ and ‘Anvil!’ delving into the roots of the music, you can see beautiful footage of the industries that helped shape Heavy Metal’s sound on the vintage mobile cinema. This beautifully restored picture-palace on wheels was commissioned in the 1960s to tour factories around the country, and throughout the Home of Metal weekender it will be visiting locations across the Black Country with a free rolling programme of archive gems. There will also be ample opportunity to explore the darker side of Heavy Metal, including a late show of the Boris Karloff chiller that gave Black Sabbath their name, and the music’s enduring global impact will be charted through documentaries, animation and artist’s film as well as some special one-off events.

The festival brings together a broad spectrum of work from local and regional artists including visual art, live art, video projection, interventions and music all in a lively two day programme. Audiences will also have the opportunity to look around artist’s studios with White Tree Studios and Eagle Works opening their doors during the weekend.

Junction is organised by Wolverhampton Contemporary Art Forum (WCAF), a group comprised predominantly of practicing visual artists. WCAF aim to raise the profile of contemporary art in Wolverhampton and promote the networking of visual arts practice across the city. The festival will be the group’s first major event. Artists work will appear in the showrooms of local traders, cafes, public houses and interventions in the street. With generous support from many local businesses and organisations we are able to bring you this exciting festival, contributing to the vibrant and upbeat feel of this edge of city-centre community.

It is free to attend and the organisers are looking for volunteers to help steward the event, If you are interested in taking part down load your Junction Steward Application Form all completed forms must be returned by Sunday 21st August 5pm.

 We are looking for volunteers to steward the procession and events in town and support at the NAC. If you could give us a hand for all or part of the day, please get in touch. You will need to be 16+ with a CRB check.
